Brighton Marathon – The Second Time Around (April 2022)
Seven months after completing my first marathon, I returned to Brighton to run it again. This time, the race was held on April 10, 2022. I knew the route, I felt stronger, and I was ready or so I thought.
The morning didn’t go exactly as planned. We were staying in a hotel nearby, and during breakfast, we completely lost track of time. I almost missed the entire race. By the time I reached the starting area, both my wave and the one after it had already set off. So I jumped into the next available wave and just started running no warm-up, no mental preparation, just go.
The course was the same as before, so I knew what to expect: where the hills were, where to push, and where to hold back. This time, I handled hydration and nutrition much better ,no stomach issues, no cramps, no problems at all. Everything went smoothly.
And the best part?
I managed to improve my time by 20 minutes, finishing the marathon in four hours. That moment felt amazing. It was proof that progress is possible, that consistency and learning from past mistakes really do pay off.
After this race, though, my motivation dipped a little. I kept running throughout the year, but as summer came to an end, I found myself drifting a bit. The spark just wasn’t the same.
But then a twist of fate! I got selected through the lottery to run the London Marathon in April 2023.
To be continued...
