Hi, I'm Gábor, a 42-year-old originally from Hungary, now living in England. My life revolves around my family I share my everyday life with my wife and two teenage sons and staying active has always played an important role. As a child, I spent a lot of time outdoors at my grandparents' countryside home, where movement and sport naturally became part of my life: cycling, kayaking, running, and dancing filled my days. Although I loved sports, I never pursued them competitively.
In March 2021, as my 40th birthday approached, I rediscovered the joy of running. I started with short 3 km runs and quickly worked my way up to 8–10 km distances. I set myself the goal of completing my first marathon before my November birthday. After recovering from an ankle injury in April, I was back on my feet by June and successfully ran the Brighton Marathon in September, finishing in 4 hours and 31 minutes.
In 2022, I continued to improve and managed to bring my marathon time below 4 hours. Although my motivation dipped for a while, getting a spot in the London Marathon reignited my passion. Running the 2023 London Marathon was an unforgettable experience: I crossed the finish line in 3 hours and 33 minutes, just shy of my 3:30 goal.
After London, I wanted an even bigger challenge, so I signed up for the Ultra Tisza-tó 65 km race in Hungary, which I successfully completed despite the intense heat. The following year, I took it a step further and entered the Ultra Tisza-tó 130 km race. Although I gave it my all, the extreme heat and exhaustion forced me to make a difficult decision: I withdrew at 65 kilometers. This experience taught me that sometimes true perseverance means knowing when to stop and respecting your limits.
Balancing family, work, and sport is never easy, especially when training requires longer runs. I usually head out for my runs in the evenings, after dark – once the family is bathing or already asleep making the most of the time I have without taking it away from what matters most.
This blog is about my personal journey: about new beginnings, resilience, overcoming challenges, and reaching for goals even when the path turns out to be tougher than expected. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
